Social media has spent years getting really good at one thing: Keeping us there.
Infinite feeds. Notifications. Recommendations. Another video. Another post. Another reason to check.
But lately, we’ve been having conversations with people who seem to want something different. Not no technology. Just… less of it.
And that got us thinking. What if a social app measured success differently?
What if the goal wasn’t to keep you scrolling as long as possible, but to give you enough time to catch up with the people you care about – and then get out of the way?
MEET THE SIGN-OFF™
Phresh is designed to actually have an end.
Check in. See what your Krew has been up to. Share something. Reply. Laugh. Leave a Beeper or a 10-second Voicemail. And eventually? You’re caught up. No endless stream of recommendations trying to pull you back in. And if you want a little extra help, you can also set your own daily time limit.
That’s The Sign-Off™.
SO WHY DOESN’T EVERY SOCIAL APP DO THIS?
Here’s where things get interesting.
Could Instagram or Facebook build something like The Sign-Off™? Of course they could. They have the technology and resources. But would they actually want to?
Their business models rely heavily on advertising. More time scrolling means more opportunities to show ads.
Now imagine Instagram telling you, “Hey, you’ve caught up with everyone. Go enjoy your day!” Hahaha. That would be a pretty big change to how they do business.
It’s not that these companies can’t build a stopping point. It’s that encouraging people to spend less time scrolling could work against the business model they’ve spent years building.
We’re not saying Phresh has figured out some magical business formula. We haven’t. But we’re willing to try something different. Because we don’t think success should mean taking as much of your attention as possible.
WHY WOULD WE DO THAT?
Because we don’t think success should mean taking as much of your attention as possible.
Phresh should be a place you visit – not a place you live. The people in your Krew matter. But so do the people sitting across from you. So does the walk outside. The dinner you’re having. The place you’re visiting. Even that completely boring Tuesday afternoon that doesn’t need to become content. lol
We’re not trying to get rid of technology. We’re just trying to put it back in its place.
YOUR KREW IS HERE. YOUR LIFE IS OUT THERE.
We don’t know if building a social platform with an actual stopping point is the smartest business decision anyone has ever made. Hahaha.
But that’s kind of the point. Phresh isn’t being built around how much time we can get from you. It’s being built around how much time we’re willing to give back.
Your Krew is here. Your life is out there. Your time is yours.
